With the selection on, push ESC and the selection is cleared.

BTW I think this topic belongs in User Exchange, not?

Good idea. The other day I demoed the Octo for a very interested guy, but he was sceptical whether he could look at it for long because of the brightness.
My guess though, would be that it is something that would demand a change in the hardware.

I work with the effects switched off not because they wouldn’t sound good, but because I generally use effects only in rather late stages of the production process. A lot of times I find them rather distracting in a lot of patches and hiding away the essence of the sound.

Hi ripe, Thank you or your answer, I have a concert at June 7. and therefore I can not install OS 1.42 now becuse otherwise I loose all my work.

I like your videos. I have made video 1 – 7 on the Genoqs page.

Nice to finally have you on board "for real", Robert :-)

Actually I use the Virus TI (Polar) with the master effects switch turned off.
To me it’s mainly two things: the interface is one of the more immediate sort, and it is 16 part multi-timbral, which fits nicely my way of working.
Compared to my NordLead 1 I find the sound somewhat more direct and snappy. But I have to admit that I have never engaged them in a 1-1 comparison. It is just pure perception.
Bottom line – why do I have it? I guess it’s the chemistry.

I assume you mean several clusters in the same row. If so, that goes back to the question of how to visualize them intuitively and directly. Again a usability issue.
I agree with John’s proposal though, in that if you have arbitrary clustering you would have one per row.
Depending on your work mode this tradeoff may or may not be desirable.

The story about arbitrary clusters has two sides to it.

The one is about usability. The current implementation is "good" because the state is immediately visible and easy to handle. On the opposite, imagine absolutely arbitrary clustering, across banks and all, and how you would find out what is playing in which order. The idea does not appeal to me, but there sure is a way in the middle and that is why we are here and discuss.

The other side is about implementation effort, which indeed is significant, and will probably have to wait until other things are in place.

Like ..oh yes, SYSEX data compatibility across versions :-)

As an alternative we could have a possible PAGE length of zero, the current lowest value for PAGE length is one. This wouldn’t be as nice in a live setting, where "unskipping" a PAGE should be quick and easy.

Zero page length sounds like trouble (a looping zero lenth page…:S )
But page skipping sounds very logic. On the other hand I don´t think that Gabriel has said that there can not be arbitrary clusters. I just suspect that there has been other priorities.

Yes this Ex-/Import Function of the whole content from one OS to the next OS is of highest imporance. Otherwise we loose all what we have done so far.

I run at present OS 1.40. Is it only possible in 1.42 or also in 1.40?

Hi, I have splitup my setup in a pure Hardware based one and a Software based one. This reduces complexity and Latency. Hardware Setup: The Octopus as "the Master" controlles & triggers the Virus TI Polar in Multimode, the Monomachine, a Spectralis and a Microwave I. All connected to a Macki Pult. I record the sum output in a ZOOM H2 portable Audio recorder and rework (mastern) it later on my MACBOOOK Pro. Alternativ I record it direct in Live.

Software Setup: I use Logic Pro and Live with Plugins and Kore 2, MS 20 Controller. (The Macbook Pro has only 2 USB Ports )

Sometims in the Hardware setup I use the Macbook with Live as a Slave of Octopus.

I think with a pure HW Setup you can do most what you want. Hybrid makes it more complex.B)

in reply to: does chord strumming scale with BPM, track tempo? #1592

i haven’t played with strumming for a while, but i remember it being perfect in regards to the master tempo. i.e. slow the tempo = slower strum, but the track multipliers don’t effect the strum speed afaik. I’m not sure whether this is a bad thing – i guess there are arguments for both implementations
