KeymasterOne thing that was not mentioned is that the black sea panel is painted, whereas the vampire panel is anodized. Any vampire users tuned in?

KeymasterI am serious about it. I am bothered with stuff that doesn’t look clean and a black front panel raises a warning flag. I would be bothered if it looked like I coated it in butter as a result of every use. But since you don’t have that problem with your Black Sea then I am probably worried for nothing. Than you!

Keymaster…i guess it is the same as on my Black Sea – and with my fingers touching it, i never had problems…
…a different story is the fingers of my children after they had ice-cream or chocolate (regularly!)…
…but even then a simple wipe with a dry cloth or a paper-towel with some glass-cleaner would do the trick…
…sorry, but as others pointed out already: this question cannot be meant and therefore not be answered seriously, can it?…i tried very hard to imagine you are really asking this question and meaning it…

Keymasteryou want to sit on your octopus?
gseher
KeymasterNaturally.

The reason why I ask is because the Octopus doubles as a nice peace of furniture but I wouldn’t want to have to wipe the surface clean every day. Then I’ll get the new classic instead. I’d rather have the Vampire though, since it’s even more beautiful, sans grease stains.

So, is the front panel attracting visual grease stains or not?

KeymasterYou should definitely only play it in a dust sealed lab wearing latex gloves and a hair net.

KeymasterThe nudge is quite handy to realign, more than once I have thought of bringing the MachineDrum to gigs just for that reason (tap tempo + nudge), but I have a Mk1 and it would make my setup a bit too bulky to carry on the moped.
The other problem is when you have synths with tempo synchronized effects, usually with delays you get those nauseating wobbly pitches.
I always wanted to try those "dj" thingys like the soundbyte micro, has anyone tried it? Does that stuff actually work or does it expect a 4 on the floor (ok, I’m showing my age here  )
Continuosly tapping while playing is not fun, but it does keep your sequencer in sync, you could pay somebody to do that…
gseher
KeymasterOh yes true… Live’s tempo can tap and be set to a fine resolution.
My thinking in this post was to move away from my "practical" working needs and into a plain discussion… Just trying to liven up the board a little.
I really think this ability to sync up / offer a "improvised" musical experience is very important… Live is great at it and I would attribute that as a major factor in it’s success…. ie.. rather than a predefined playback of events (prerecorded audio) you could instead play "clips" back when you felt the time was right… that was huge…
So to push the boundaries: If a sequencer could somehow work with a "human" level of timing… then one could use a sequencer (octopus) to play along with a string quartet or orchestra for instance… that would really be pushing the boundaries I would think (computers seem to do this now?)…
[Also – I’m Danish as well and grew up in Solvang, Ca, USA… Hej!
Much of my electronic music experience comes from my 90’s living in DK… so much cool stuff over there…]
Later…

KeymasterWell it’s the February issue, it will be free in 4 months or less, I just wanted to share the excitement
gseher
KeymasterThat would be possible I suppose, but if your needs are (as I understand) to sync up with live musicians, then I think you should just use a master clock unit of some sort that has all the features you need.
In my setup (studio) the Octo is always synced to Ableton, and I actually often use the tap tempo there when I go from the initial idea to laying down the tracks in Octopus or Ableton. If you already have a laptop, it could take care of your needs right now, without any further hardware investment. (Plus you could be recording the whole performance or whatever on it.)
gseher
KeymasterThanks!!!
I appreciate very much your experience.
I have not heard a direct answer to whether or not the new moog pedal sends a midi clock that can be set via tap tempo…
or heard if the tap tempo for the Octopus is a priority yet.. nudge…. nudge… wink.. wink..
So looks like Ploytech it is…
Strange how not on the click real musicians are… They tried to get Ringo to play to a click and after listening… decided that it was a bad idea as all the feeling left the recording. We do perceive those small variances in time.
It is these small performance variables (tempo, etc..) that make an instrument a "instrument" with greater emotion. Even the great drum machines like the 808 are famous for their imperfect "groove" not their precision to some sort of perfect time.

KeymasterLove mine…
Glad to hear Rachel that you made the right choice of and Octopus verses computer…
Octopus is my first sequencer… Love it!!!
gseher
KeymasterI like it too. I was wondering why it has not been
implemented.rachel
