KeymasterRemember that in some cases using pause instead of stop can be a good idea.

KeymasterHello Duncan,
glad to have you back!
Checked the details of the 1.40 file and it seems there is indeed a compatibility condition with the 1.42->160 update file. I guess there are still more 1.40 machines out there than I expected.
Cheers, Gabrielgseher
KeymasterI was pretty sure my octopus was on v1.40, & checked before embarking on the upgrade just now. but when I loaded the 1.40>1.60 sys-ex, it stalled about halfway through.
on a hunch, I tried the 1.42>1.60 version instead & it worked. what’s up with that?

KeymasterHartley, if you want to test it in your setup, the way to go back to a 1.4 version is via the USB upload. The document on how to do it is linked in the OS software section of the service area of the web site. I hope it is not too technical to give it a try. The OS file you should use is linked here: http://www.genoqs.com/downloads/OCT_OS_v14308.elf
Let us know how it goes. Thanks and cheers, Gabriel.gseher
KeymasterRegarding BlackSea:
Always translate like this:
Red = Blue
Green = Orange
Orange = Purplegseher
KeymasterThere is a discussion going on as to how the clustering of pages may be enhanced in a future version. Allowing what you propose is a valid aspect, and as such it is of course a consideration to be made. But please do not understand this as a commitment to this particular feature – it is simply too early to tell.
gseher
Keymaster…ok! – the update (1.42->1.6) went just fine – thank you! – however: as there are no special instructions for the Black Sea, might it be possible to post a general and very short document which lists the differences in colour-coding between the Black Sea and the others, so I dont have to try-guess if (regarding the Program-LED)
red = blue (good!) or
orange = blue (bad!)…after browsing through the other Octopus’ manual and not finding the answer, I just took the risk…
…and succeeded

When you say that this is a "current" limitation, is there perhaps a future plan to allow for a 64 page structure?

Keymaster1) No. And for clarification – this used to be the case on OS versions prior to 1.60, with regard to the internal resolution. That restriction has been successfully removed.
2) Not currently. On Octopus you can, using PgmChange, but not on Nemo. Reason is, we are looking for a better way to do it, which will find its way into both machines.
3) Do you mean a full machine state? That will depend on the number of written pages (i.e. non-blank pages) contained. Transmiting a page takes on the order of 5 seconds, and transmitting the global settings takes on the order of 10 seconds. Depends on your MIDI interface settings, too.
On a side note, you do not have to stop the sequencer for the sysex intake, if that matters in any way to your setup.4) Similar to 3 – it depends really on the number of pages writen. A page is 10K and the global data is 16K.

KeymasterThe manual is correct in that you currently cannot make page 17 play after page 16. And therefore you will currently not be able to chain all 64 pages into a single structure. But – there may be some things you can do still.
Depending on the content of your pages you may think about the following:
– use chains inside pages.
– use retriggers (page STA) on pages in your cluster of 16 – on pages that repeat themselves that is.
– use lower tracks speeds possibly combined with higher page LEN values on pages that allow it.If and what you choose to do from the above (if applicable to your material) may also require re-grouping the elements in your song. Let us know how it goes.

KeymasterHi Rachel, late welcome from my side as well!
The link you have posted is the main project link.
From there, click on the "Public" tab, and then at the very bottom you see "Browse CVS". That should take you to the place as well.
Or just simply follow the links Robert provided
