also in your dimly lit studio?

Hi Marcel, I’ll give the USB lamp a try, but I think it will not fully ‘cover’ the large front panel. Any more light, and my studio is no longer ‘dimly lit’, heh.

So the alternative is the patching of 260 trim pots on the pcboard? Lol…

I’m playing with the strum and step repeat feature right now (both way cool!), and I have a problem with the timing of the STA attribute when defining a strum level.

For example, to set up a strum level as a simple two-note 32th phrase, where two 32th notes are played in the place of a single 16th step, I cannot get the timing right of the second note. With a STA value of 9 the second note is early, with a STA value of 10 (red) the note is late. It sounds horrible, especially noticable when playing at low BPM (try 20 bpm). But I can also hear it at normal tempos.

I think this is because the Strum feature was originally not designed for this, and the strum timing scale, though dependant on global tempo, has no relation with note length.

If you guys have the same problem (and ignored it), I’m going to make this into a feature request.

Interesting setup! And I see you use Live to rechannel your midi keyboard, heh. If that’s still in 1.42 it may be the first reason to get the source code and tweak it.

You mean the scale steps thingy? I just read about it in the manual, cool. Didn’t know it was disabled.

I work with the effects switched off not because they wouldn’t sound good, but because I generally use effects only in rather late stages of the production process. A lot of times I find them rather distracting in a lot of patches and hiding away the essence of the sound.

I see. I mostly use fx from the mixer board, not so much from the synths themselves. I record dry though and use fx from Logic in the mixing phase.

Thanks! You saved my life. Well, almost. ;)
Esc, why didn’t I think of this? Is this in the manual, btw?

Guess you’re right about the User Exchange section.

I just picked one up before the US price increase, so I am still learning the ins and outs. So far I am really impressed by it, even with the effects turned off.

See my other post in the General section for a TI sample I just made.

I like the flexibility, the multitimbrality, and it has the new atomizer mode, which I have to try out some more. I like it better than the Nord G2 so far, the nord always gives me the impression of what it would sound like if you tried to make a synthesizer with lab equipment or Matlab, lol ;-)

I just listned to your post in the General section. Love the second part of the composition. :) But soundwise, I again have the same reaction. Somehow I percieve the Virus sound as ‘airy’, ‘loose’, ‘no boody’. It’s something in the overtones that disturbs me, and that is exactly why I don’t get it popularity.

Anyway, point taken on the G2 sound, but I like the Clavia character, especially the NL1, NL2 and NordMod1 series which are a little more rough and dirty than the NL3 and G2. Howver, a lot of good contributions have been made in the meanwhile, and the G2 *can* sound better now. It just takes more work.

Actually I use the Virus TI (Polar) with the master effects switch turned off.
To me it’s mainly two things: the interface is one of the more immediate sort, and it is 16 part multi-timbral, which fits nicely my way of working.
Compared to my NordLead 1 I find the sound somewhat more direct and snappy. But I have to admit that I have never engaged them in a 1-1 comparison. It is just pure perception.
Bottom line – why do I have it? I guess it’s the chemistry.

Gabriel, why did you switch off the master effects? Are they rubbish?
So it’s mostly the UI that did it for you. I have to admit that a 16-part synth with built-in fx and a good UI is rather tempting.

Note sure if I should call it LOAD/SAVE or READ/WRITE page.
Also, the X button for loading a page is a bad choice, I know. Suggestions for another button very welcome. I wanted to the two buttons (Program and the other) to be placed on very different places on the circle to avoid mistakes.

The way I look at it now it seems harmless to allow for several clusters (in the current sense, joined consecutive pages) in a bank, provided they are separated with ‘blank’ pages. When using the proposed arbitrary clustering within a bank, having more than one cluster is visually almost impossible. Okay, I’ll get back to this when I’ve touched the subject myself.

    Thanks, Gabriel.

Having the hardware definitely makes a difference. ;)
    A truly amazing piece…

I gotta know guys, why is the Virus Ti so popular?

I tried a Virus A and later on a C model in the shop and wasn’t impressed. When I switched off the fx and omnipresent filter sweep, what’s left was a thin, dead tone. I listened to tons of Virus mp3s on the net, inlcuding the new Ti ones, and still haven’t caught the virus. What’s its secret?

Okay all, I finally have the Real Thing sitting on my desktop here. :) B)

Flashing the new OS went smooth, and first thing I tried was this new feature. LOVE IT! I also truly dig the way it is implemented in the chord circle. Couldn’t be easier.

Great to have the option to make a step a random note or chord out of a controlled set of pitches and rests. Awesome…

Ah, didn’t know. I assumed several clusters were allowed. Time to RTFM again, lol.

In that case, it could work, though not as visual as the current cluster indeed.

Why can’t we have several clusters? ;)
