got to agree. this was a fabulous machine when it arrived, & it just keeps getting better. I sort of wish the black panel was available as a retro-fit, but I’m not exactly kicking myself for buying one when I did. actually, what I’d like now is a baby octopus, something around 3-4 rack units, & 4 or 5 tracks.
either that or there needs to be more octopus users in the north-east US who can lend me one when we’re over there gigging again. my p3’s are great, but somewhat lacking in the looks department…. :-)

    season’s greets, all.

Now what if you added the Blacksea to your studio and all of a sudden *POOF* a little Grey Octopus offspring showed up!

i was thinking the exact same thing… i’d never seen any bit of gear close to the beauty of the octopus until the black sea version. if only i had the money/need for 2 of the little guys – i’m almost tempted to sell everything and replace with octopii – ‘the wall of octopii’ concept studio… the lights would probably blind me though

    it’s the blue/yellow led’s that really make it i reckon – they look great…

hmmm… i use an mpc4000 and sometimes also an mpc2000xl as the master with the octopus and never have had any problems… i also have some very very complex midi routing stuff going on using a motu 8×8 and i’ve never had any issues – i would suggest the problem isn’t with the octopus – it’s always been rock solid for me, and as far as timing goes, i’m sure i’m pushing the limits of what is practical and still i have no problems… the mpc sounds like it isn’t sending clock properly

Thanks for the reply. I’m using a direct connection between the Octopus and MPC3000.

    Well, our answer is "BlackSea".

    Hi Satellite,
currently there is no timing offset built in.
Do you slave the Octopus directly to the MPC, or do you go through a longer chain? A bit more about your setup?
Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I’m curious…is there any kind of MIDI Clock timing offset built into the Octopus…or could it be added as a feature? I notice when I use the Octopus as a slave to my other equipment there’s a noticeable lag…enough that I can’t work with it as a slave. I’m fine if the Octopus is the master since my MPC3000 has a MIDI Clock offset setting.

I am not sure yet, I was thinking of dark blue

    ARP 2600 http://www.vintagesynth.com/arp/arp2600blue.jpg arp2600blue.jpg

but I love as well darker warm tones as with LinnDrum, but I’m not sure it would look good with the metal.

I don’t remember ever seing a piece of green hardware, so maybe that could be an option as well… hmm.

Hi Robert, sure – I use a Mac to do the actual development, on Eclipse, and using the GNU tools (gcc, gdb, etc.).
The eCos libraries were originally compiled on a Linux box though.
Not sure if you have checked out the development environment tutorial available on the site. It contains a good outline of the overall setup.

    Hi Robert,
you can get the latest stable source on Sourceforge, even if it says 1.00 in the title.
There is a main.c file which #include-s all of the header files you see otherwise.
In main we setup the hardware and the interrupt infrastructure, after which the functions get called by the interrupt handlers.
    Cheers,
    Gabriel

The serial number will likely be a 2 digit number, depending on the time of your order.
As far as the front panel is concerned, what colow were you thinking of?

Nice to see the Zyklus/Improvisor concept caught up attention overhere. If those ideas could get a place inside the Octopus then my dreammachine has arrived.

Check out page 101 of the manual – toggling pages using external program changes. That may be what you are looking for.
