Weird as in timing? Notes?
But that’s a problem local to the MPC, no?
I don’t see how the Octopus in involved in this picture.Weird as in timing and notes. Both yes. We can leave out the Octopus-MPC connection at the moment, but it’s quite sure it’s not an MPC related issue. I have been syncing it with Cubase 4 for ages, and never experienced any problems like this.
But that’s besides the point.
What I am trying to understand at this point, is how Live users use their setup with Octopus. As I said – I use the Octopus as a slave and the computer as a master. With that setup I have to trim the sync offset to around 250 ms to get it right.

Gene SchwartzParticipantYep. It starts alright – but the timing against Live is dreadful.

I had to offset the sync by around 250 ms for it to work at all, and it’s still not 100% on the beat. When I tried to hook up my MPC 2500 as well things got weirder still.Hi Carl, how did you set up the system. Which of the two is master, which is slave?
Hi Robert – the computer is actually the master, and the Octopus is the slave. When you mention this, I have a memory of Gabriel saying that Octopus is better off as the master… hmm… could it really make such a big difference?

Gene SchwartzParticipantThanks for the tip. I am seriously considering moving from Cubase to Live. I will try it out. Good point re. turning off the global fx in the Virus too.
Gene SchwartzParticipantAs many are using Live here, maybe someone can tell me if it’s hard to record into different tracks in Live?
Gene SchwartzParticipantThanks for the good advice! It works like a charm now
Although my initial question was regarding Cubase – it still interesting to hear how you all work with the Octopus. I found out that working with a mini-host, is not bad at all – and can almost replace a software sequencer.
Gene SchwartzParticipantThis was a very interesting post indeed, and I really understand where LDT is going, and a goal definately worth of trying to reach. Although I also understand the technical problems – if I understand it correctly the way would be to change the resolution of the sequencer, something that would (my guess here) require a more or less a total rewrite of the OS.
But wouldn’t it be possible to achieve this in another way? After reading this post my head jumped to quantum mechanics! Where things can be at more than one place at the same time.
Hey – I’m not a programmer (not any more at least) so maybe I’m just talking rubbish here – but wouldn’t it be possible to achieve a higher resolution by doing some kind of interlacing? That would probably push the cpu hard, so it’s probably not the most efficient solution – but hey… you asked for ideas

Gene SchwartzParticipantThanks mate! Actually no – I "just" have the Classic version with brown wooden sides.
Anyway – read your post about the groove function. Brilliant post. -
