I use Logic as my main studio environment, midi, audio and video. I was trying to figure out a way of routing betwteen Logic and the Octopus, I have a number of ‘real’ synthesisers which I want both machines to access through my Unitor8 and AMT, but I want to keep the Octopus ‘live’, ie I don’t want to record midi data into Logic, just the audio. The splitter idea sounds like the way forward, plus I want to keep Logic the master so I’ll clock the Octopus from that.

KeymasterHi, I use the Octopus as the Midi Center Master Machine in my Hybris Studio. In Logic 8 ( no midi Clock in anymore ) I use a setup with the channel splitter. The Mac Book Pro is connected via Core Midi via USB with the AMT 8. The Octopus Midi Output 1 is connected (In /Out) to the Virus Polar dirctly and the Midi Out 2 is connected to a Midi Thru Box from Midi Solution. From the Midi Thru Box I route one output to the AMT 8 IN (to access Logic) and the other to external Hardware Synth I can access the devices via different Midi channels. I also habe a Spectralis connected as Slave to this but here I have an Event Box (Midi Solution) between which filteres out all midi note information. I use the Spectralis as the Drum and analoge bass machine in the setup and controll pattern remote with midi controllers.

KeymasterHi, since I am using a Virus TI myself, here is what you may(!) want to try in a very first step. Connect Octopus directly to the TI via MIDI and put the TI in sequencer mode (each part listens to that one channel). This is a good setup to get acquainted with the machine and get a feel for how the MIDI channeling and program changes work – and in many cases quite sufficient for a nice performance and a good source for quick gratification
In the next step you’ll have to look at the way Live is treating the MIDI stream coming from Octopus. You’ll have to make sure that you route the signal to the right place, i.e. wherever and however your TI plugin is listening. Otherwise you’ll have to let us know more about the way you have set up your Live set.

KeymasterNext in line I would expect a version where you can actually see the wood veins.
I’d actually sell the blacksea for a walnut frame with ARP 2600 blueface plate.

KeymasterExcellent! How could I resist? 👿

Keymasterpressing two steps would conflict with the setting the lenghth of a step in Edit Mode…

Keymastervery cute!

KeymasterCheers, thanks for thinking about it. I guess I’m just seeking consistency wherever possible. So if a note has a length attribute (which can be modulated), why not a track. Or if you can select multiple notes for transposition, why not for skipping (it’s not really ‘muting’). I’m probably OCD but that kind of thing appeals to me..

KeymasterHi Matt, thanks for the notice. I definitely think you should stay on 1.60 as going back to 1.42 is more involved, i.e. you’d have to do it via USB. Let us know how it goes. Cheers, Gabriel

KeymasterWith the new step mute behavior I can’t find a way to unmute in EDIT mode. You can mute a step but you cannot unmute, can somebody confirm?
In general I’m not yet in love with the new behavior… (I didn’t use track mutes that much)
I tend to skip 3 or more steps, before with my right hand thumb on the mute button I could reach the last 7 steps of the first 9 tracks with the rest of the hand.
Now it’s a two hand operation, and can mute max 4 steps in a go. Anyway I’ll get used to it.gseher
KeymasterDo you know if there’s a fast way to skip a range of steps? I often like to start with sequences of maybe 4 notes, gradually increasing as I program cool stuff into each new step. As there’s no concept of track length, it can be quite laborious to keep making these changes by all those individual button presses – is there a shortcut?

KeymasterI have found another problem with step mute. If I have set steps in a track and if i will set muted steps also in the same track normaly I press mute and than the step. The LED shows red. This do not work anymore. Why?
