how do i set track length to something other then 16 steps? i tryid LEN buttob in track mode and get 16 yellow leds in the first row, but nothing happens when i reduce them..?

What you need to do is just skip steps. That shortens your track. If you need more steps to a track, use a track chain.
Adjusting LEN will make your notes in the track play shorter or longer.
